Looking Back: People and Places – January 2002

When the SSP website first launched in 1999 a popular section was People and Places which recapped industry news and shared employment news for members of the community.  The original posts from the archived SSP website will be shared periodically, with contact information removed.

People and Places January, 2002

The Sheridan Group, which is a supporting member of SSP, has announced the creation of Dartmouth Journal Services. Headquartered in Hanover, NH, Dartmouth Journal Services provides full-service editorial, composition, and web-produced journal manufacturing for the scientific, technical, and medical publishing marketplace. SSP Member Paul Bozuwa has been named President of the new company. Paul previously served as President of Capital City Press for 10 years and is the current Treasurer for the Council of Science Editors.

Kevin Pirkey has been named the Business Development Manager, Journals, for Dartmouth Journal Services (see related article above). Kevin has held a variety of sales and sales management positions within The Sheridan Group of companies over the past 15 years. These include The Sheridan Press, Capital City Press, and Sheridan Electronic Systems.

Marcia Tuttle has been awarded an honorary lifetime membership by the North American Serials Interest Group, Inc. (NASIG). This is the first time that NASIG has awarded an honorary membership. Marcia was a founding member of NASIG and served on the original volunteer executive board. She founded NASIG’s Newsletter on Serials Pricing Issues, which was a pioneering publication of its kind. Established in 1985, NASIG is an independent organization that promotes communication and sharing of ideas among all members of the serials information chain – anyone working with or concerned about serial publications.

Sheila MacKay has retired after 40 years with Academic Press in San Diego, CA. Sheila most recently served as the Director of Manufacturing Services and Business Operations over Academic’s journal program. She is relocating to Lake Charles, LA.

Bill Breichner has been named Journals Manager for Johns Hopkins University Press. Bill previously served as the Journals Production Manager at Johns Hopkins and as an Account Manager at The Sheridan Press.

Rosamunda Neuharth-Ozgo has been named Sales Director at Allen Press, Inc., which is located in Arlington, VA. In this position, she is the East Coast representative for Allen Press. Rosamunda previously worked at Cadmus Journal Services.

Jennifer Fleet has been named Production Manager for the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). In this position, she is the senior production manager for the multidisciplinary research journal, Proceedings of the National Aademy of Sciences (PNAS). Jennifer manages all aspects of biweekly print and weekly online production of PNAS. Jennifer’s previous positions include Production Manager for The Plant Cell, Production Editor for the American Diabetes Association, and Production Assistant for The Journal of Neuroscience.
